Practicum experience

Throughout my two years of practicum in a Preschool Centre, I have learnt how to work with children of different age groups as well as their personal needs and communicate with other teachers and the principal in a professional and respectful way.

Practicum Year 1

Through these two weeks of practicum, I was placed at a class of N1 children of ages 2 - 3 years old. I learnt how to enquire other teachers about children's personal needs, such as their dietary restrictions, and their special needs if they have any. I have also provided assistance with the children's daily routine along with the main teacher, such as distributing children's meals and portioning them out accordingly and arranging their cots for naptime. When I was interacting with the N1 children in the class, I learnt to set boundaries with them on my personal space, as most of the children were dependent on physical contact such as sitting or lying on the teacher's lap.

Practicum Year 2

Through 5 weeks of attachment at my practicum, I was allocated to a class of 14 N2 children of ages 3 - 4 years old. I was able to get more involved into children's daily routines as well as being part of planning children's curriculum along with the other teachers. I was given the opportunity to make my own lesson plans and implement them with the help of my host teacher.
